Moving Forward by Jan Neil
Sunday 5 August 2018, 1:00 pm - Saturday 20 October 2018, 5:00 pmFree
I first became aware of my interest in the language of colour in art when I began studying fine art, at Bendigo Institute of Technology ( 1972-75). At the time, I undertook silk screen printing. As I screened one colour over the top of another, in a layering technique, I realised that the colour I was applying was influencing the colours underneath. I realised also that colour affects us emotionally, psychologically and ultimately influences our colour choices. The layering technique, I practiced in the ‘70’s, remains largely my approach today. Since 2000 my journey has been primarily expressed through the medium of painting. In my current practise “Contemporary Painting”, I find colour choices are broader than in earlier landscape paintings that represented and attempted to mimic the landscape. Colours in my landscape paintings were usually fully saturated, but not very far removed from the actual colours of the landscape. “Contemporary Paintings” on the other hand is experimental, with elements of colour, composition, texture and space. Each painting informs the next one, posing questions and moving forward in my painting experience. ⚊⚊⚊ Jan Neil 2018
